Our November Pick is ‘hey u x’ by BENEE
hey u x is the debut album released by New Zealand’s hottest pop artist, BENEE. You likely have heard of her breakout hit ‘Supalonely’ which was actually released at the end of 2019, but saw a second wave of streams from TikTok as it became the soundtrack for quarantine - eclipsing 467 million Spotify streams to date.
There’s not many artists this year, if any, who can compare to a breakout year in 2020 like the 20 year-old Stella Rose Bennett.
On this record, Stella continues to follow her signature bouncy-electro-pop sound on singles like ‘Plain’ (featuring fellow female artists Lilly Allen and Flo-Milli) and ‘Snail’, to slower and more emotional tracks like “Happen to Me’ and ‘C U.’ Throughout the 13 tracks, she is joined by a talented crew of featuring artists include Grimes, Bakar, Mallrat, Gus Dapperton, and more.
We don’t expect this to be last time we hear of BENEE, if only ‘hey u x’ is just the beginning.
