Album of the Month: Smooth Big Cat

DOPE LEMON

Friends,

We are back this month with our October pick for Album of the Month.

As a reminder, these choices will range from fresh releases to older ones that have just been in our rotation as of late.

Our October Pick is ‘Smooth Big Cat’ by DOPE LEMON

Smooth Big Cat is the second studio album released in July 2019 by Angus Stone’s solo project, DOPE LEMON, composed of 10 tracks. You may recognize his name from his other notable project with his sister, Julia Stone. On this record, the psychedelic folk singer blends two genres unlike anyone we have heard.

Angus Stone’s solo embrace of a new type of sound stemmed from jamming with his friends in a Sydney suburb barn where most of the songs were written. Most recently, Stone has also tagged in fellow Australian surf rock legend, Winston Surfshirt, on his new track "Everyday Is A Holiday". Give it a listen.

Aside from his incredible sound and style, Stone has once described himself in an interview as a "mythical creature of leisure"... Which sounds about right after taking a deeper dive into this album 🐆🐆🐆.

Here are a few of our favorite songs:

  • Lonely Boys Paradise

  • Hey Little Baby

  • Smooth Big Cat

  • The Midnight Slow

And if you enjoy these artists, we think you’ll love Dope Lemon.

  • Tash Sultana

  • Lime Cordiale

  • Ocean Alley

Stream ‘Smooth Big Cat’ now :)
